Coral Reef, Ecological Project 1000 House in Haiti which Inspired by the Coral Reef

Referred to as black pearls West Indies, Haiti is a beautiful island nation which many tourists visit. But in 2010, the country is devastated by an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale, many homes and existing facilities were destroyed in Haiti, so overall this country must wake up and at reset. This is where the architect Vincent Callebaut came up with a big project which is relatively new and innovative urban planning and architecture with modern reply, that's the beginning of the cultivation of the Coral Reef.













Design Construction Process


This project is an independent village development plan with 3-dimensional concept which can generate its own energy source. Each "building has a very simple construction, because basically this is a project to address the problem of the many post-earthquake refugees who do not have a place to live. The design house consists of only two passive houses (metal structure and a distinguished solid tropical wood) which support each other each other and connecting each housing unit.
As I have us refer for thread title, that the housing project was inspired by coral reefs, here the architects took the concept of coral reef two waves, so this project can accommodate about 1000 families of disaster victims in Haiti. Second foundation "wave" is firmly embedded in the seabed Caribbean. Winding line "which is contained in the ground (anti-seismic) to absorb vibration when an earthquake happens.

Coral reef as environments will be in the habitable by 1000 this family is designed with facilities which support the greening of the earth, a healthy environment, the concept of ecological shelter here be applied with a variety of ways such as on every roof there are gardens to grow crops so that each family can cultivate their own food , and cultivating their food waste and waste as fertilizer. Aquiculture farms where there are fish pond maintenance, and clean up water purification plants which contain toxins and impurities in use well water used for bathing purposes, or raising so as not to damage the sea when discharged to the sea.

Health Clinic & Libraries Made Of Container

Container shipping has a firm structure and a versatile and has traveled the world during their lifetime. The Contertainer is a polyclinic and the public library designed by a company in Indonesia called Dpavilion Architects, which converts container adventurers into the library, which serves as a "window of the world." Names for health clinics and public libraries are a mixture of two words: container and entertainers, which reflects a purpose to provide a better quality of life for those who have little money.

The Contertainer located in Batu, East Java, which is a relatively new city with strong roots in agriculture. Growing gap between those who have money in Indonesia and those who do not have, is the urge to project a fun and colorful, which is totally free to the public. In it is a health clinic that provides the needs of the villagers, such as health care and public library to study, conduct community activities, inspiration, and entertainment.

The centerpiece of this building consists of five shipping containers placed on the "stage". Container shipping is something that is easily available and cheap in Indonesia. and Dpavilion Architects decided to use them because of their multifunctional nature and ease of construction.

Aceh Tsunami Museum

Of course many people who still remember the disaster that has been frowned thousands of lives in Aceh, Indonesia and other country. The earthquake on December 26, 2010 with a strength and a 9.3-richer scale earthquake that the most tremendous within a period of 40 years. An earthquake measuring 9.3 magnitude that caused the tsunami waves as high as 9 meters hit some areas and caused 230,000 people died in 8 countries (Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Inda, and Thailand, a country with the largest number of deaths).

The tsunami disaster in Banda Aceh is a reminder that we humans are nothing, there are other great powers, and when an affair, we are unable to resist and dodge that is God the creator. For that, need to have a reminder that the power of God is everything. Made a monument to the tsunami in Banda Aceh, which has a good architecture design, modern and still pay attention to eco design, so I am very interested to lift it into the theme of my post this time.

Tsunami museum to be built in the city of Banda Aceh, about 1 km from the Grand Mosque of Banda Aceh, Aceh Tsunami Museum The functions are:
1. As an object of history, where the tsunami museum will be the center of research and learning about the tsunami disaster.
2. As a symbol of strength of the Acehnese people in the face of the tsunami disaster.
3. As a legacy to future generations in Aceh in the form of messages that have occurred in their areas by the tsunami.
4. To remind the danger of earthquake and tsunami disaster that threatens the territory of Indonesia. This is because Indonesia is located in the "Ring of Fire" Pacific volcanic belt, and the lines surrounding the Pacific Basin. Fire ring region is an area that is often hit by earthquakes that could trigger a tsunami.

Exterior Design Museum
Building a traditional house of the people of Aceh, Aceh stage of building a house is taken as an analogy of building a mass base. With the concept of houses on stilts, this building could also serve as an escape hills of a park shaped hill that could be used as one of the anticipated location of rescue in case of floods and the tsunami disaster in the future.

Then too there is the hill of light, in addition to the park for a full evacuation of hundreds of poles, where visitors can lay flowers, a kind of personal space and also there is the memorial hill in the basement and equipped exhibition space.

This design is also loaded with local content. Saman dance as a reflection Hablumminannas (the concept of human relations in Islam), distilled into a pattern of building facade.

Views remarkable exterior that expresses the cultural diversity of Aceh through the use of ornament decorative element of transparency elements of the outer skin of the building.

And the roof of this tsunami museum is my favorite for exterior, because this building use eco design roof like modern sod roof. I have talk my post about sod roof because I really like modern building with green roof.

Green and Beauty Home with Green Roof of Sod Roof

For those who Scandinavia, Sod roof or roof tuft were common, but for me that is the people of Indonesia, Sod Roof is new. When I blog walking about the building with Sod roof, I really liked this. Many cities in the world is too advanced, so they look very less of green plantation. Many tall buildings, many residents and a lot of pollution but also the cities that seemed to forget how important reforestation. To make the city look green in addition to the city park, should the roofs of buildings and houses using Sod roof.
What Sod roof is?
Sod or turf roof A roof is a traditional Scandinavian type of green roof Covered with Sod on top of layers of birch bark installments on Gently sloping wooden roof boards. Until the late 19th century it was the most common roof on rural log houses in large parts of Scandinavia. Its distribution roughly corresponds to the distribution of the log building technique in the vernacular architecture of Finland and the Scandinavian peninsula.
HISTORY
Scandinavian grass roof may have existed since prehistoric times. At the time of the Vikings victorious and in the Middle Ages, all roofs have been covered by grass. Even the churches - churches and other buildings with a steep roof was closed by a layer of bark and grass roof.
Until the early 19th Century grass roof model , but as the development era, grass roofs gradually being replaced by roof made of clay and ceramics. Currently, traditional Scandinavian home can be found at the Museum Open Norway.

STRUCTURE












Grass roof has several layers. The first layer is a board that serves as the roof of the house and as the foundation soil and grass in the second layer. Layer form of sheets - sheets of birch bark are installed in accordance with the direction of the slope of the roof. Installation of fiber skin itself without using glue or nails. Only the friction of bark and wood boards that resist occurrence of landslides.
Layer above it is the installation of soil. Land that is placed shaped box - a box with dimensions of about 30cm2 and about 7.5 cm thick. Lapisan2 soil was placed above the skin layer birch tree with brick tide position.
